How I made this DIY balloon arch for my son’s birthday party …my second-ever attempt, which clearly makes me a certified balloon engineer now 🎈💁🏼‍♀️ I was quoted over £200 (!!) so I grabbed a kit for £8.99 from Amazon, a balloon pump, and DIY’d one myself. Here’s what I used:
– Balloon garland kit (my kit had 120 balloons but I definitely didn’t use all of them) - Modelling balloons
– Electric balloon pump (game changer)
– Balloon Glue dots
– Command hooks to hang if you’re not using an arch
– Sheer determination If you're a fellow mum searching “how to make a balloon arch” or “budget birthday party ideas,” this is 100% doable — even if you’re not naturally crafty. Name someone more determined to make something work than a mum trying to create a better life for her kids? When I started posting publicly on social media 8 years ago, it was to stay connected to the outside world when I felt very lonely at home with a newborn. Fast forward 9 months when maternity leave was almost up, the femcare company I had been working at before baby arrived, made it impossible for me to return. Shortly after, baby number 2 arrived & during lockdown my social media following started to grow. Along with doing some freelance marketing work to earn a bit of money, I could see there was an opportunity to commercialise what I was doing on social media. I put all my energy into building a platform where brands I was already loving and using might want to work with me, although there was no guarantee this would work! The sacrifice that comes with this when you’re doing it to be around for your kids during the day, is working every evening, 7 days a week. This is absolutely NOT me complaining, it’s the trade-off for a lifestyle that I’m so grateful for, but it’s the side of content creation as a parent that I think goes unseen. And what that means, when someone asks me ‘what do you do once the kids go to bed?’ is, tidy up, work then go to bed. But there’s still this stigma, like it means your relationship is hanging by a thread. When actually, it can be a powerful tool for prevention and connection. We didn’t go to therapy because things were awful. We were just stuck in the same frustrating loop; snapping, shutting down, misreading each other. And with two small kids, two businesses, and trying to buy a house during lockdown… it felt like everything was against us. And we were against each other too. Therapy taught us how to communicate better and helped us shift from me vs him to us vs the problem. We’re not therapists. Just two tired parents who needed help but these are the actual tools we still use. Holiday edition ☀️ What my picky eaters ate in a day – Eurocamp Spain 🇪🇸🍞🍎 📍 Playa Montroig @Eurocamp Holidays (brand ambassador but this post is not part of that partnership) Travelling with fussy kids can feel daunting, but honestly? If mine get by on bread and apple juice for the week, that’s okay. The chance to explore a new country and enjoy quality time as a family is more than worth it. One of the reasons we love Eurocamp is the self-catering setup – perfect for sticking to the foods our kids will actually eat. But when we want a break from cooking, there are 3 restaurants on this site (we’ve tried one so far and it was pretty good, although the kids menu is small there’s also pasta and pizza options available). If you’re visiting, make sure you reserve a table at the ‘Friends’ restaurant, a beachfront spot just 2 minutes walk from the campsite – they were brilliant with the kids and the food was lovely for us too. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be a great family trip. Does travelling with picky eaters stress you out?
