Sometimes it’s the little adventures at home that turn out to be the sweetest 🍯 Denzel’s Marmalde Recipe: Ingredients: • 1.5kg Seville oranges • 2 lemons • 2kg granulated sugar • 2.5 litres of Water • 1 muslin bag (or clean piece of cloth & string) • 8 sterilised jam jars ⸻ Directions 1. Prepare the fruit Halve and juice the oranges and the lemons. Scrape out the pith and pips and place them into a muslin bag. 2. Slice the peel Carefully cut the peel into thin strips, as thick or thin as you like. Add the peel to a large saucepan along with the orange and lemon juice. 3. Simmer slowly Add the muslin bag and the 2.5L water to the pan and simmer gently, uncovered, for 2 to 2½ hours, until the peel is soft. Tip: pop a couple of small plates in the fridge now, they’ll come in handy later when testing consistency . 4. Remove the bag Take out the muslin bag and, carefully (it will be hot!), squeeze as much liquid as you can back into the pan. This is where the magic comes from. 5. Add the sugar Stir in the 2kg of sugar over a low heat until completely dissolved. Then bring to a fast boil for around 15 minutes. 6. Test the set Spoon a little onto one of your cold plates. Let it sit a moment, then gently push it with your finger (or paw). If it wrinkles… congratulations! You’ve made marmalade. Still runny? Keep boiling in 5-minute increments and test again. 7. Jar it up Once it’s ready, take the pan off the heat and let it rest for 15 minutes before carefully ladling into your sterilised jars. 🧸 Enjoy with toast, and if possible… share with a bear.
We said we were off on an adventure. And then I left you waiting, and I’m sorry for that. But the forest is still here. The path was waiting patiently to take us on our journey. And now we’ve found it again — not quite where we left it, but close enough to carry on.
